In Memory of Bruce Foster

by Rick Quatro on June 15, 2011

Bruce Foster, creator of many fine FrameMaker plugins, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Although Bruce had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in September 2010, his death still came earlier than was expected. Bruce’s plugins for FrameMaker were BookInfo, ImpGraph, MifSave, MifToFM, RtfSave, and his most famous, Archive.

Bruce’s website is now offline and, as far as I know, his plugins are no longer available  for sale.

Adobe Engineering has just released a free ExtendScript script for archiving FrameMaker 10 books:

I haven’t tested the script yet, so I can’t necessarily recommend it, but it is certainly worth looking at.

Thanks, Doug and Syed. And thank you very much for your donations. Others have donated as well, and my son and I are very grateful. This year’s Roswell Park Ride will take place on Saturday, June 25. Over 5,000 riders have signed up so far and it should be a great event!

Hello Rick,

Attended the ExtendScript webinar. A great fan of yours due to your constant and timely support on the FrameScript yahoo groups. Just made my donation but forgot to mention Bruce Foster’s name in the comments section.

Good luck to you and your son for the ride.

A lovely tribute idea, Rick. Here’s a donation on your son’s page from Sue Collins and Alexandra Duffy at Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc.

Regarding the script published by Adobe: It is not (yet) prime-time ready. See my comment at the Adobe blog post.

Hi Rick
I was just going to email Bruce about upgrading my archive plugin as i now use FM 9, but i see that, sadly, Bruce is no longer with us. Will someone be managing Bruce’s plugins? I dont mind if i have to buy the plugin again but i see that the web site is off the air. I did not know Bruce, only via a few emails, but he was always helpful and quick to respond.
Thank you.
Dave

From what I understand, Bruce’s plugins are retired for good. If I hear any different, I will post an update.

If anyone has a copy of the Archive tool for Frame 8, I would appreciate it. I would gladly pay for it but it does not seem to be available anywhere…..

Thanks,

Paul
